Engaging students through critical thinking and interactive learning
The Pine Academy was created in 2011 by a small group of experienced educators and parents seeking to provide quality academic enrichment options during the summer months and after school. Allison Henne, Jo Ann Shogan and Katie Shogan noticed that school-age kids fill their summers with lots of exciting camps and activities that are fun, challenging and enriching. However, there seem to be very few programs with an academic focus. As teachers, The Pine Academy founders believe summertime is a great time to accelerate learning, rather than turn it off for a few months. In fact, there is compelling research showing that students lose important academic skills during the summer months, especially in math. Out-of-school and out-of-the-ordinary experiences provide the perfect opportunity to explore, sharpen and expand upon ideas and concepts that are taught in school.
Excited about the possibility of offering a new kind of summer camp, Jo Ann, Allison and Katie formed The Pine Academy in the summer of 2011, and offered their first program, Start Smart. The Academy offered several after school programs during the 2011-2012 school year, and plans to quickly expand its offerings and serve a greater range of grade levels in the coming years.
The Pine Academy is committed to helping all children cultivate their academic interests and talents, build their confidence and enjoy learning. We seek to meet this goal by providing high-quality academic enrichment and support opportunities for students.
